Centre of Research Excellence in Urban Indigenous Health
Centre of Research Excellence in Urban Indigenous Health will harness existing partnerships and infrastructure to develop the next generation of health researchers to drive Australia's first urban Indigenous health research agenda.
The CRE is an opportunity to improve health outcomes, enhance models of care, and influence health systems impacting the health and well-being of urban Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Key research areas of the CRE include a focus on issues requiring systemic change such as data linkage between primary and tertiary care, mental health services, hospital in the home, rehabilitation, cancer care, maternity care, and progressing technological advancements.
Our vision is to strive for excellence in health care delivery and outcomes for urban Indigenous Australians through the establishment of a Centre of Research Excellence in Urban Indigenous Health. We will achieve this vision through an Indigenous-led program of innovative, community priority-driven research aimed at transforming health service delivery for Indigenous Australians who live in the major capital cities of Australia. Our CRE will be primarily focused on Southeast Queensland (SEQ) but have broad implications for national and international Indigenous populations living in major cities.
We will generate new knowledge by developing and executing a health services research agenda focused on urban Indigenous populations, comprising of four research programs, comprising (i) innovation in Indigenous led models of health care; (ii) achieving systems change and clinical outcomes by achieving an integrated health care system; (iii) best practice in patient centred care and community engagement; and (iv) Getting our data right.
Our CRE will actively promote the translation of our research into policy and practice by efforts using two major frameworks (i) an equity translation framework and (ii) Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Services (PARiHS) Framework..
