About UQ Poche Awards for Innovation in Indigenous Health Seeding Grant scheme

The UQ Poche Centre is a university level centre strongly supported by a collaboration with the Faculties of Health and Behavioural Sciences and Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.  The UQ Poche Awards for Innovation in Indigenous Health Seeding Grant scheme is designed to promote targeted research projects and encourage collaboration between researchers across UQ and the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH - UQ’s external collaborator in the Poche Centre).  Successful applicants will be matched with a collaborator from IUIH to finalise their proposal.

The intent is to fund research which supports the objectives of the UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous health. The research must involve collaboration between UQ researchers and the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health in one of the following themes:

  • maternal and child health (Mum and Bubs);
  • young people and adolescents (Healthy Transition to Adulthood);
  • adults and older people (Health Living, Healthy Ageing).
It is not necessary to contact IUIH prior to submitting your 'big idea'.  We will faciliate introductions for short-listed projects.

The research must be sector driven i.e. responds to a gap or need in Indigenous health as identified in collaboration with the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health. The focus of the research activity should be translational research on improving models of health service delivery to urban Indigenous people, with an emphasis on prevention, in one or more of three key transitions in the life cycle outlined above.

This is an internal funding scheme. The total amount of funding available through this Scheme in 2017 is $120,000. It is anticipated that at least 3 x Awards for Innovation in Indigenous Health Seeding Grants of a maximum of $40,000 each will be awarded in this round.

Projects should complete in 2017. Applications may be made for funds to cover research staff time, teaching buy-outs, research field and travel costs, research consumables and dissemination costs. Research-related equipment, conference travel and research administration costs will not be covered, unless otherwise approved by the assessment panel.

Procedure

  • Expressions of interest are due by 1 October 2016.
  • Submit online a completed form along with supporting documentation.

Next Steps

Successful applicants will be contacted and partnered with a researcher from the Institute for Urban and Indigenous Health.  A final proposal will then be drafted with a detailed budget, expected outcomes and approval from the hosting organisational unit.
