Seminar Overview

Ann-Maree Long (she/her) is a proud Badjala, Woppaburra yeeran (woman) living and working in MaganDjin within digital inclusion, mentoring, and weaving for healing. Drawing from her experience mentoring aboard the IODP JOIDES Resolution as part of the "From Fire to Flood" expedition (Italy - Amsterdam). Ann-Maree looks forward to sharing reflections on how deep-time scientific exploration and Indigenous ways of knowing came together to inspire the next generation.

In this National Reconciliation Week presentation, Ann-Maree explores how mentorship, legacy, and truth-telling can shape pathways forward for youth in spaces of science, culture, and leadership. Her work is grounded in respect for Country, community, and the enduring strength of Indigenous voices across land and sea.

Speaker

Ann-Maree Long (she/her) is a proud Badjala, Woppaburra yeeran (woman) with a passion for social justice and LGBTQIA+ rights. As Program Manager for Land on Heart’s Digital Inclusion & Literacy Project, she works across remote communities in the NT to foster meaningful connections and build digital engagement programs. With experience leading impactful education programs such as CareerTrackers High School Program and the Young Indigenous Women’s STEM Academy in consortium with CSIRO, she brings a deep commitment to education and advocacy. A QUT Creative Industries graduate and Co-Founder of Sandpoppy Weaving, she serves on First Nations Advisory Groups including Committee for Brisbane and Pyjama Foundation. As the first in her family to graduate high school, Ann-Maree is dedicated to creating opportunities and amplifying voices in the community.

Drawing on the legacy of her Ancestors - the first scientists, chemists, and custodians of the land - Ann-Maree is devoted to empowering young Indigenous voices, ensuring they play a pivotal role in driving innovation and shaping the future of STEM.
