
Nizam Ahammad is a physician with over a decade of service in a tertiary care hospital in Bangladesh. He completed his clinical training in Bangladesh and earned a master’s degree in Gerontology and Geriatric Welfare from the University of Dhaka. Nizam began his career as a full-time residential medical officer, providing care and treatment for patients with NCDs in socially disadvantaged settings. His expertise and passion lie in the prevention and management of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Nizam is committed to leveraging his clinical experience to empower young people and adults in Australia to adopt preventive strategies against NCDs. Currently, Nizam is pursuing a PhD on the PreventNCD study (Preventing non-communicable diseases among Indigenous children and youth in major cities of Australia) at the UQ Poche Centre for Indigenous Health. His research interests focus on addressing gaps and challenges related to NCD risk factors identified by Indigenous communities. He aims to contribute to reducing health-related risk factors and transforming health inequalities, issues that have inspired his engagement with the Centre.
